I have read your blog and I agree about the importance that has this subject because we can learn a lot about American Literature, there are many details and facts that took place of course something relevant is how was stablished the first colony in Virginia and later the New England colony.
Moreover, the Indian tradition as you pointed out are really important and the US culture, also I can say that the first settled came from European Countries helped to build this new society with their contributions, besides we found many writers that emigrated to the USA and settled there. All those aspects have contributed to build that country.
